UCEA Mid-Atlantic Region Annual Conference

SEPTEMBER 30 - OCTOBER 2, 2009
SYRACUSE SHERATON UNIVERSITY HOTEL
AND CONFERENCE CENTER
Syracuse, NY

**A Note to Conference Registrants**

Greetings,

I’m pleased that you have registered for this year’s University Continuing Education Association’s Mid-Atlantic Region’s 2009 Conference, “Seeds of Sustainability.” The conference planning committee is looking forward to three days of camaraderie, learning and networking.

In preparation for your arrival in Syracuse I’d like to highlight the following:

1) I strongly encourage you to participate in this year’s service project, which supports the Syracuse region’s Youth Day Back-to-School Barbeque (http://www.youthdaybarbeque.com/). Mary Nelson started organizing the Youth Day Back-to-School Barbeque event eight years ago as part of an effort to reduce violence in her Syracuse neighborhood. Nelson created this event to help local children prepare for the school year by collecting school supplies, backpacks, and books. Besides donating school supplies, Mary has treated children and their families to a barbeque and parade. Remember to bring new or gently used backpacks, school supplies and books for children pre-K through college. We will have a collection area set up at the conference registration desk.

2) As of Monday, September 28, the Weather Channel was forecasting showers and high temperature of 51 degrees for Wednesday; a few showers and a high temperature of 52 degrees for Thursday; and mostly cloudy skies and a high temperature of 59 degrees for Friday. Please plan accordingly.

3) For first-time attendees and those new to UCEA we will be hosting a Newcomers Welcome from 11:15-11:45 a.m on Wednesday. We encourage you to join us to learn more about membership in UCEA and the opportunities it provides. Come to the registration desk on Wednesday morning to take part.

4) The registration desk will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning, and 7:30 a.m. on Thursday and Friday mornings in the conference area of the Syracuse Sheraton. Our opening luncheon will begin promptly at noon on Wednesday.

5) Please visit http://www.midatucea.org/directions.html for directions to the Syracuse Sheraton.

6) Free transportation to the Syracuse Sheraton is also available at Hancock International Airport. Please pick up courtesy phone in the baggage area to arrange pick up.

If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please feel free to contact me. I’m looking forward to welcoming you to the conference.
